Mfg #: Lionel 6-11718

This Norfolk Southern Unit Train set was manufactured by Lionel in 1992. It was the final set of the series of "Limited Edition - Collector Series" sets manufactured by Lionel from 1979 thru 1992. These were the sets that gained notoriety as being the ones that came in the bright, solid color set boxes.

It is headed up by a Dash 8-40C diesel that features dual Pullmor motors, 12 wheel drive, magne-traction, die cast metal wheels and trucks, diesel horn, headlights, illuminated number boards, electronic "e-unit" (forward-neutral-reverse and no annoying "buzz"), flashing cab mounted warning light, engineer figure in cab, die-cast operating knuckle couplers at both ends, and excellently detailed cab, brake-lines, snowplow & handrails. It is one in series of "simple" dual-motored Dash 8 diesels (prior to the introduction of the computerized diesels of the present day) it is "simply" a brute, nothing complicated, and capable of pulling 40-50 modern era freight cars.

The set also contains 5 Norfolk Southern standard "O" flat car, with Triple Crown tractor trailer loads, #17503-17507. Each flatcar features step ladders on all four corners, all metal sprung trucks with metal wheels & axles and operating magnetic knuckle couplers at both ends.

The last car in the set is a Norfolk Southern extended vision smoking caboose. It is lighted and features a smoke unit (smoke is emitted from the caboose's smoke stack when track power is applied) and has all metal, die-cast arch-bar trucks with operating magnetic "plate-activated" couplers and metal ladders at both ends.

The set is factory sealed and is in "factory fresh" condition (i.e. "Mint", "brand new", "never been on the tracks or displayed").
